Totalitarian Culture

What is not to understand?

1.     The Unites States, for the past 50 years or longer has pursued an expanded worldview of Manifest Destiny in which it is the savior of the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manifest_destiny.  It should be clear to Christians that the substitution of the Unites States for the LORD Jesus Christ is a very wicked, anti-Christ, and anti-Christian thing to do.  It should be equally clear that in support of this doctrine that we reach out in care to other nations, and even animals, while people are going hungry on our own doorsteps.  The adage, “Cast out the moat in your own eye first,” comes to mind.  The point is not to change and neglect a different part of these obligations.  The point is that we must care for all: hungry on our own doorstep, the foreigner and stranger, as well as created animals, plants, rocks, and rills.  Such care is to be extended, not coerced, in the name of the risen Jesus Christ who offers freedom and peace to all.  The Unites States does not offer freedom and peace to all: it offers capitalism and economic slavery under the guise of a false-democracy.  It should be clear from the Ancient Greeks that the extension of a pseudo-democracy was merely a political-ploy to put a corrupt man in office: it resulted in a loss of, not an increase in freedom, and ultimately led to the downfall of Greece to the Roman Republic.  There is really no point in protesting that democracy is better: historically, democracy always deteriorates into anarchy and autocracy.  The Republic prevails because it is a better deal.  Even some monarchies are preferable to the sort of autocracy that democracy spawns: Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin, for example.  The Unites States, in extending welfare, is simply playing with political manipulation.  The Church, on the other hand, in relationship with Jesus Christ, through the Holy Ghost, is merely doing its duty.

2.     There are not enough jobs to go around.  When the family farm was the predominant economic structure, there was always work to do.  The home was the castle, the family was the organization, and people could not be fired.  In our society, we are now dependent on jobs, get fired and poverty, even famine immediately threaten.  On the farm, if you were sensible enough to avoid mortgages and other debt, even in a bad year, you would probably still have: a roof, food, work, and a barn to shelter strangers.  The link between farms, jobs, and debt slavery should be obvious and not need development here.  The necessary jobs, through the combined efforts of government and industry have largely been deported through the guise of a global economy.  Ostensibly, in a global economy, jobs like making shoes and welding could be farmed out to third-world countries while jobs requiring more difficult technical skills would remain.  Now we live with the bitter irony that the technical jobs are all farmed out: engineers can’t find work, employers can’t find skilled welders, and Keds cost $100 (This is a joke.  Nobody wears sneakers anymore.  Everybody needs expensive specialized athletic shoes.  Keds retail between $20 and $100.)  The complaint about illegal immigrant labor is also a red herring: we wanted and demanded illegal immigrant labor ever since I was a small boy: but now in economic downturn we need a scapegoat.  How can this be?  Downturns occur naturally.  Some years we just don’t get enough rain, which is why we have barns and root-cellars.  The real reason that this is such a disaster is that we have not been dealing with it one year at a time: we’ve been postponing the inevitable by debt.  Everything is mortgaged from lunch, to gasoline, to wars.  The irony of putting lunch on a credit card ought to grip us all: it just doesn’t.  People ought to be able to get jobs and do them.  A thriving economy has a surplus of jobs, everyone who is able works, everyone has a place of respect at the table.

3.     Nazi Germany and euthanasia.  That’s what my doctor said.  He had a point.

4.     Chomsky’s point that we really live in a Totalitarian Culture is well taken: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcSBqkLDxmo.  Our government lies to us.  Our government manipulates us with propaganda: we are told what to think, when to think, and how to think.  God and the Bible are no longer central to our thought processes.  The Decalogue, which is designed to abolish slavery among the people of God forever, is now reduced to the ten suggestions.  Our education system, which was originally considered a way to defeat evil (The Deluder of Satan Act: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massachusetts_School_Laws), has been manipulated to become the means of controlling thought.  Children from K through PhD are not being taught how to think, but how to give the right answer.  Real thinkers, like Chomsky are a rarity in our culture: most of them have been marginalized.  The scientific community is commonly instructed by their political or other overlords, how to spin the facts.  If the scientists doesn’t “get it” the first time, they get retrained: failing at retraining they get fired or otherwise marginalized.  Many excellent scientists, realizing that this is who the game is played, go along with the lie so that they can get back to their work.  There is no freedom of speech in this.  Chomsky is tolerated only because he sounds like a raving madman to most people.

5.     Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.  Our ever increasing omnipotent central government is a disaster.  We continue, uninvited, to meddle in international affairs.  The fine balance between inclusivism and isolationism is rarely achieved.  Rarely do we approach the family of nations as brothers and sisters: usually, we come as know-it-all lords.  This is a byproduct of our folly, because only Jesus is LORD.

Many of us believe, and I proclaim that our forefathers envisioned a united STATES, not a UNITED states; which is to say that all truly important action is local action.  The home is the Castle, it is being invaded by government.  We need to get out of debt, and stay out of debt: in doing so we break the slavery leverage that crushes us.  We need to stop listening to government/corporate propaganda, learn to think, and start doing things for ourselves.  We really need to return to God and His Word.

“Why do we always hear about Social Security [and Medicare] running out of money, But never hear anything about welfare [or Medicaid] running out of money. The problem is the [Social Security participants] worked for their [benefits], The [Welfare recipients] didn't [work for anything]!”

The Problem is Anarchy.

The core of our anarchy is that we no longer believe in God, and we are rebelling against His authority with all our human frailty.  This can only lead to our defeat and destruction.

Yesterday I Ran Across These Questions.

(From: http://ancientfaith.com/specials/armatas_transforming_our_lives)

Do you believe in the following:

·       God, The Triune God of the Bible[1]

·       Satan, the Devil, the fallen angel who opposes God

·       Angels and Demons

·       The Fall and Paradise Lost: both cosmic and personal?[2]

·       Good and Evil

·       Heaven and Hell[3]

·       Sin and Death: do I accept their consequences?[4]

·       The Day of Judgement

·       Death and Bodily Resurrection

·       Spiritual Warfare: an unseen war for your soul?[5]

Today, I believe that most Americans would answer, NO, to all or most of these questions.  Here is where the battle was lost.  The Scripture raises the question, “When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”[6]  Evidently the answer to that question is, not very much.

Unless we are sincerely able to answer, “Yes,” to all of the above questions, the following answers are irrelevant.  While one does not have to be a Christian to be an American; without a strong Christian basis, America cannot continue to exist.  But that is irrelevant, if we cannot affirm the questions above.

This Is Not About Abortion.

We note with all sobriety that this is not about abortion, this is about freedom of religion.  Does an individual or a company have the right to run all its affairs based on moral principles?  Based on moral principles, does an individual or a company have the right to exempt itself from Federal and State programs?

Is the Constitution Being Raped?

Is the Constitution of the United States being raped?

Our Federal Constitution, contrary to popular opinion, does not guarantee the separation of church and state, or the separation of Bible and state.  Our Federal Constitution, guarantees the separation of the ESTABLISHMENT of church and state.  In other words, We may not have any variety of religious morals, programs, or theologies, etc... thrust on us through the power of taxation, or police action.

When the Constitution was being written, that clearly meant untaxed and un-coerced freedom of choice between various brands of Christianity and several brands of Biblical cults, that were not truly Christianity.  For example, Deism was clearly included: but Deists wanted the freedom to quote the Bible in political and moral debate, as well as the right to pray openly in public.  In fact, Deists demanded such freedoms and did not see in them any impediment to freedom of religion.

The Constitution of the United States is no longer any guarantee of anything.  To most politicians, even to many Christians, it is an outmoded and irrelevant document.  Nobody cares.  Every military servant, from buck privates up, every Federal public servant vows to uphold the Constitution of the United States.  Today, that is a meaningless vow, so much hot air.  Why?  Because it is clear that the majority of the members of both political parties, in all three branches of government and elsewhere consider the Constitution of the United States to mean anything they want it to mean.  The common public servant can no longer simply read the Constitution of the United States literally and discover his or her duty.

The simple fact is that our Nation is already lost.  We have entered the Age of Anarchy.  The rule of law has been defeated.  The endless series of tragic travesties like those of the Murrah building, Columbine, World Trade Center, Sandy Hook, and Boston Marathon yesterday reveal how deeply into anarchy we have already sunk.  These things, as horrific as they are, are merely symptoms: they reflect for us what we as a nation have come to believe.  What is it that we as a nation have come to believe?  NOTHING.  ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

What is The Case in Point?

However, please note that Snopes includes caveats.  I have never been a fan of the particular church mentioned, but now they have demonstrated their wickedness openly.  Nevertheless, we must not be naïve.  The opposing opinion held my many, so-called-churches, outnumbers us by many magnitudes.  This is a battle that Christianity is losing.  Even churches that have taken strong stands against abortion and Death Culture have many members in defection: such churches are being attacked from within and without.  Make no mistake, We are at war.  We can only hope and pray with the psalmist that the wicked people who have designed and set such treacherous traps and pitfalls would fall victim to their own inventions, and we might escape.  America is no longer a place where one can freely practice one’s religion.  God is our only refuge.  He always was our only refuge.

Yours in Christ

Augie-Herb

“And he told a parable to them for this goal, men should always pray, and not faint.  He Said, “In a city there was a judge, who did not fear God, or regard man.  There was also a widow in that city: she came to him, saying, ‘Avenge me of my adversary.’  However, [the judge] refused for a while: yet after thinking it over he said to himself, ‘Though I do not fear God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow pesters me, I will avenge her, lest by her perpetual whining, she wear me out.’  And the Lord said, ‘Hear what the unjust judge says.’  And shall not God avenge his own elect, who cry day and night to him, since He bears patiently with them?  I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.  Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”  (Luke 18:1-8 KJV — Paraphrased)

Contemporary Politics and Christianity

The Start of the Discussion

For the most part I don’t believe that Christianity and politics mix.  The basic reason is that politics cannot possibly be redemptive.  Only Jesus is redemptive.  Once in a while, I’m dumb enough to bite on an issue.  This year’s Republican convention is a case in point.  Within a few moments, I was fuming and wrote the following:

I’ve got no use for a non-Christian candidate hiding behind the Christian hymn, “Amazing Grace.”  I’ve got no use for a candidate who can’t spell small business who builds his opening overture on small business people.  I’ve got no use for a small businessperson who claims to blame business problems on no one else, then proceeds to blame his failures on [his political] opponents.  I’ve got no use for a candidate whose only real policy is, defeat that other guy.  You’re thinking I’m anti-so-and-so.  You’re wrong.  I don’t like either one of them.

My Further Response to Comments from Friends

That's pretty much how I see it.  I just can't escape the notion that both of these men are evil.  The image of Nixon taking over a Billy Graham crusade keeps screaming at me.  The choices in this election terrify me.  However, I’m glad that I’ve got both Democrat and Republican friends who have made peace with it, and I sincerely hope you’re both right.  Still, that can’t possibly be true, can it?

My World View and the Candidates

I guess my idea of the end of the world influences me far too much, but I have a very pessimistic view of politics in general.  I believe that a non-Christian hiding behind Christianity is evil.  I also believe that betrayal of Christianity by a false Christian is evil.  I think those two sentences describe our two candidates adequately.  I’ll leave which is which unsaid; both sentences could be applied to either candidate in my view.

If Obama wins, I see four more years of disaster.  If Romney wins, I see four years of Nixon.  Which is worse, Tricky Dick reincarnate or Slick Willy reincarnate?  I think our best bet is to hope for strongly opposing parties in Executive and Legislative branches and four more years of locked up lame duck do-nothing-ism.  Maybe, four years from now something else will surface.

On the bottom line, all my heroes have disillusioned me.  Newt is a rat.  Fred Thompson has turned into a supporter of bad banking.  Paul’s foreign policy is insane.  McCain-Palin just shot themselves in the foot.  Rick Santorum weenied out.  Rick is still my guy.

My Theological Perspectives

I get the Roman Catholic support of Romney, I really do.  In fact, I totally agree with the five non-negotiables, I support them, they are Christian totally values, not subject to debate.  However, I think that Romney, if elected, will just stab us in the back again, the five non-negotiables will be in the trash again, and we’ll have other problems with the big money power play, etc....

Both candidates talk like dictators, neither one has any real moral strength, and the Republicans have yet to field one real policy.  At least Fred Thompson, shill that he has become, knew how to form policy.  So did Reagan, but the current crop do not.

My Christian Solution

I’m going to enraged many Roman Catholics and a lot of Orthodox just by proposing the following silly idea.  Even though I’ve already lost, let me continue with my foolishness.  Please bear with me.

My solution?  The Church must become One.  The Roman Catholics, the Orthodox, and all the little Protestant fragments have to stop saying we’re IT, and come to the table with real parity for a real Ecumenical Council.  That means everybody invited has a real equality in the discussion and voting.  It means that nothing is canonized or enacted without unanimous consent.  It also means we have a big problem: for many groups call themselves Christians who have left the faith.

So how would we ever get such a group together?  Well, the Pope could relinquish his claim to be head over all, accept his office as First among Equals, and invite the delegates from Orthodox and conservative Protestant bodies.

The first act of such a body would need to be the full restoration of Apostolic succession.  That would require many ordinations to take place and be accepted by all concerned, so that all could come to the table in Apostolic parity.

Then many cross confessions would be required, so that all could come to the table having put away every grudge and historic wrongdoing or even slight.

Finally, all local Councils and Synods, together with all ex-cathedra statements would need to be vacated, especially those enacted since 1054.  Then the difficult task of hammering out unity could begin.  What about the the five non-negotiables and the culture of death?  The Pope would simply invite all who sincerely subscribe to the five non-negotiables and oppose the culture of death.  If we were lucky, we would at least have a body that believes that the Ten Commandments are binding on Christians.

If such a body could ever be established it would need to attack the issue of debt slavery very quickly and apply enough pressure to put it out of existence.

A Tentative Conclusion

Many will form the conclusion that I’m being disrespectful of either the Orthodox or Roman Catholic or other churches.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  This idea comes from my deepest respect for Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and other churches.

Now that I’ve managed to make the whole world mad at me, I’ll quit with this parting shot.  We’ve got to wash one another’s feet.  I saw in the news, an Irish priest doing exactly that and I can only applaud his courageous action.  One thing for sure, if nobody is willing to give up anything, the table of unity will never come together.  I’d be glad to make a list of all the things I’m willing to give up for real Christian peace: but then, I’ve got no authority.

However, if we continue to refuse to set aside our prideful boasting, we will continue to be defeated.  We must find a way to give up the least important in order to find the most essential.

Yours in Christ,

Herb aka Augie
