Psalm 146:1-10

... in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.  Amen.  Through the prayers of our holy Fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us.  Amen.  Glory to You, our God, Glory to You.

O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, You are everywhere and fill all things, Treasury of blessings, and Giver of life: come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every impurity, and save our souls, O Good One.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us (three times).

Psalm 146:1-10[1]

Praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord, O my soul.

While I live, I will praise the Lord.  I will sing praises to my God while I have any being.

Put not your trust in princes, in the son of man, in whom [is] no help.  His breath goes forth.  He returns to his earth.  On that very day his thoughts perish.

Blessed [is he] who [has] the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope [is] in the Lord his God; Who made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that [is] in them; Who keeps truth forever; Who executes judgment for the oppressed; Who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord releases the prisoners.  The Lord opens [the eyes of] the blind.  The Lord raises those who are bowed down.  The Lord loves the righteous.  The Lord preserves the aliens.  He relieves the fatherless and widow.  The way of the wicked He turns upside down.  The Lord shall reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations.

Praise the Lord.

[1] See Psalms 103 and 104.  The great message of this Psalm of Praise is that worship is exclusively for God; kindness and mercy are for our fellow human beings.
The psalmist does not vow to praise Yahweh as long as he lives, but as long as he exists: he speaks of an existence far beyond mere earthly life.
Earthly leaders are no help, they are not worthy of trust, not only because they cannot be trusted, but also because they have no power to help.  They die, they decompose; their thoughts in life cannot be carried out, their thoughts perish as well.  It is not that they cease thinking in the afterlife, they have thoughts aplenty; thoughts that only condemn them.
The believer, on the other hand, is blessed, because his thoughts are hidden in God’s thoughts, and they continue to be realized forever.  God created all things; He maintains Truth eternally; He relieves the oppressed from oppression, and provides food for the hungry.
The psalmist concludes with a song of praise, which is nearly identical to Isaiah 61:1-3 and Luke 4:18-19.  This song is prophetic, and speaks of the eternal jubilee, the rest of God, which is declared in Luke 4.  The great question for us is, since Jesus announced the inauguration of the eternal jubilee in His kingdom, why aren’t we living like it?
