While we agree with Luther's conclusion, we have doubts about how he got there. Both Law and Gospel agree in forbidding usury in a wonderful Biblical Harmony of Truth. The "Judaic paiduema" that was taking hold in Leo X's Europe was in direct violation of the Law, thus restoring the "disordered and fragmented nature of fallen man" forbidden by the Law. The Law at its core, forbids slavery. Jesus, by the cross fulfills the Law and brings real freedom. So also the "new paideuma" has taken hold of America and Europe and must be destroyed. This "new paideuma" is at the core of what Jesus and His Law make war against. The Bible must be seen in gestalt.
