Psalm 64:1-10

... in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.  Amen.  Through the prayers of our holy Fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us.  Amen.  Glory to You, our God, Glory to You.

O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, You are everywhere and fill all things, Treasury of blessings, and Giver of life: come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every impurity, and save our souls, O Good One.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us (three times).

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it is now, was in the beginning, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

Psalm 64:1-10[1]

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer.  Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.  Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked, from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity: who sharpen their tongue like a sword, [and] twist their arrows, [even] bitter words: so that they may shoot in secret at the perfect.  Suddenly they shoot at him, and fear not.

They encourage themselves [in] an evil matter.  They commune of laying snares secretly.  They say, “Who shall see them?”  They search out iniquities.  They accomplish a diligent search: both the inward [thought] of every one [of them], and the heart, [is] deep.

But God shall shoot an arrow at them.  Suddenly, they shall be wounded.  So they shall make their own tongue fall on themselves.

All that see them shall flee away.  All men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God: for they shall wisely consider His doing.

The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and shall trust in Him.

All the upright in heart shall glory.[2]

[1] David rightly observes that the righteous are justified in their fear of the wicked.  It’s not paranoia if someone is really trying to kill you.  Make no mistake, Satan seeks the death of all (1 Peter 5:8-8).  Believers face fear, subversive plots, insurrection, vicious lies, and ambush on a daily basis.  Those that God has made righteous by faith and works understand that they are involved in a spiritual war that has not yet ended; nor will it end until the second coming of the Messiah.
The wicked behave fearlessly, because they believe that God is not watching, nor is He concerned with what they do.  These are faultfinders.  They can’t wait to trumpet every flaw of the righteous around the universe.  If the righteous slips, it is the immediate scandal of the tabloids, the front page headline of every newspaper.  It’s world news.  The wicked are enslaved to gossip, because even their hearts are treacherous (deep) sewers.
The wicked only think they shoot.  They do shoot, and they really wound.  In the final analysis, God heals and returns their volleys as if they were mere boomerangs.  Anyone who does evil, should expect to be punished with his or her own crime.
The evil that the wicked expected to make into world news, shall suddenly expose them for what they are.  The world will draw away from them in terror.
The righteous, on the other hand, will find relief in gladness.  A world full of believers will give glory to Yahweh.
